Any of you guys get the newer engine masters magazine?? Pretty cool, John Kaase won with his 404 cube cleveland. 30 teams came, 14 were Fords this year!! Think its cool that the top six were 3 Fords two Chevy's and a dodge. Threw me off a bit seeing the new Ls7's and the Chevy small blocks with the distributer in front. There was even a old Ford y-block pulled from a 50's school bus, SOHC, boss 429's. Just hope hot rodders will come around and see that Ford engines build well so they dont put small block chevies in fords anymore. I like the Chevy small block, but times are changin!!
I love that this is a Ford site and there is one response!! From what I get they base the score on displacement, hp, tq, and other things! Just cool, I was excited to see so many Fords. But WTF knowone even said a thing. Ford engines are getting some recognition! The 4v cleveland heads are said to be the best one of the best designs ever.
I won't go to a car show just for that reason... tired of seeing yet another Ford getting desecrated by yet another 350 with lots of chrome. Don't care whether parts are cheap or not, do something original. Probably take a little while to get back the respect it deserves cause so many have deserted the Ford camp. Almost half the field was Ford now that is bad@$$. Love to put that Boss 429 Kasse setup in my truck!!!! Enough to make any gearhead get a woody when firing that badboy up.
i was at a car show a few years ago and there were all the street rod fords with chubby 350's in them. the trolls were drooling all over those chromed out chubbys.
then they saw the 70's vette with the blown 460 in it, and were crying desecration of an american legend.
WTF??? it is OK to put a 350 in a 36 ford 3 window coupe, but it is not OK to triple the power of a vette??
that is why i don't go to car shows anymore. too many know it all idiots
Yep where i am a corvette owner thinks everyone should bow down to them. Nothing like a bunch of snooty people making you feel like your a peasant for owning something else besides a vette. I dare to be different, I think cheby is overrated but i grew up around Fords and Chrysler motors so i am a little biased. My dad would disown me if i pulled up in a cheby cause he would refuse to help me work on it. So i stay with things i know plus i am not gonna spend $50 to get in a car show only to see maybe 5 to 10% Ford and the rest cheby i just get tired of seeing the same thing over and over again. Only an opinion, i guess some hold Ford very close to their hearts while others not so much. Nothing like hearing a Ford getting nasty with a heavy foot pedal and a driver with a big smile on his face.
I have a good friend who owns a shop locally. He and his son both build 454 Chevy engines. They lost badly a couple of years ago when the test program was changed. They used to run the engine up for max power, now according to Bobby, they do a sustained pull from low rpm all the way up. The 460 combustion chamber design is much more forgiving of spark lead than the Chevy 454. Both Bobby and his son grenaded due to detonation. Several of the other 454 based engines went out the same way. They had everthing up there including a 409 based engine, a Pontiac 455 based and a Cadillac 500 that year.
What i would love to see is a GAA motor in a car or truck at a car show.. how much more bad@$$ can you get sporting 1100 cubic inches?? Too bad they suck for gas mileage but hey you can't get any cooler than that!! I would be bowing down to something like that. Aftermarket field for people crazy like me would love to get ahold of one and stuff it into anything from a car to a tractor. Would have to have a bulletproof drivetrain to tame the over 1000 ft lbs of torque but still it all comes down to just how nuts you are about horsepower. I think the pulls down low is a better representation of were these motors are spinning most of the time anyways. Try to spin one for max horse and see how many cops will be on your @$$ around town. Once most of us dump the 5 to 10 grand into a hot motor we don't always have enough money for the high grade gas it needs so then they become weekend street or track bruisers. Pinks is even starting to bore me cause of all the chuby motors everywhere.
