AOD Fluid Capacity Help
ok, so im new here, but ive been wandering this forum for a long time now. I've got an 89 F-150 5.0L with the AOD, well the transmission pan is leaking alittle so im going to do a new pan gasket and a filter change (don't know if that maintenance was done before or ever). Ok so here's the thing my Haynes says the total system capacity is 12 U.S. Quarts. That seems a little much for just the pan. Does that figure possibly include the torque converter also?

Yes 12qts is for the whole system. The pan probably only holds around 3qts.
If you are changing the fluid it would be better to drain the torque converter as well as the pan, as that is where the bulk of the old fluid is. If you rotate the converter you should find the drain bung.
