Unhappy Need better mpg

Man I love this truck. This thing will pass everything but a gas station. Its a 2006 Ford F250 FX4 v-10 130k on it 5spd auto 4.10 limited slip rear end stock size 265/70r17 Hankook MT's. I put the air raid cool air intake on it. Runs great has the power would like to know if there is anything i can do to get some better MPG out of it. Its getting to the point the ol girl has to sit while I drive my wifes car to work.

The only way to increase your MPG's is to slow down and keep the RPM's under 2K, the other method you seem to have discovered is to keep it in the driveway. Not trying to be funny but there isn't much left on the table to eek more MPG's out of them.

When I bought my truck, which gets about 10 mpg, I also bought the high mileage option - a 28 mpg Ford Escape!

The first couple of years I would occasionally try different driving styles to improve the mileage, but now I don't even track it. When you need a truck, you need a truck; when you don't, drive something else!

there really isnt anything you can do to increase MPG enuf to make it a cheap daily driver..

the truck is simply large and heavy..and that takes alot of fuel to move throu the air.

one of the tricks i heard here to get better mileage is to drive the truck like you have a egg under the gas pedal.. dont break the egg

It's an 8000+ pound vehicle with the aerodynamics of a barn door. It's not a toy but a truck to work with either as a hauler for work or a nicely sized camper. IT IS NOT a DD vehicle for someone with a thin billfold nor of faint heart. Winter gas time - mine will do 9.5 to 10.5 around town. Summer gas time about a mpg better. Open road, up to 14 - as long as I stay in the 18-2000 rpm range. That is without the 11,000 5th wheel attached, then it's 8-9. Mine just turned 64K, needs its first new tires, and am looking for some that might just help a bit more the the Continental bricks. And I use mine as a DD - that is provided my wife doesn't strongly suggest I use the 20+mpg Escape

Whatever my '06 does for gas mileage, it's still better then the '79 F350 SC/460 which open road was never better then 10, 5-6 with the old 5th wheel camper hung on.

I found the answer yesterday to get high mpg's, a tailwind LOL. I made a 90 mile highway trip, speeds 40-65 depending on rural town speeds with a 15-25 mph tailwind. My gauge showed using a little more than a 1/4 tank so I just had to fill up and check it out. 15.78mpg!!!! And no I didn't check it out coming home, I didn't want to ruin my day!!!

As others have said park it and drive something else. Mine is a daily driver 22 miles a day, but if the wife or my daughter are off or not in school I drive one of their cars. Or you can do what my briother in law did and buy a Harley, if he rides it 3 times a week he can make the payment on what he saves on gas. He has a 75 mile round trip drive to work tho. We both get 11.5-12 around town and 14-15 on the road if kept below 2000 rpm. Both trucks are 2v motors but it seems like the 3v are rite there too.

There are a lot of little things you can do, but your still only going to get a 1mpg gain if that. Single biggest differest is just driving it easy. I usually take it easy, and when in the city I do often **** a lot of folks off who apparently were in a big hurry! For example just watch your rpms and try accelerated into top gear without going over 2000 rpms. I can accelerate to top gear without going over 1500 rpms if I try, and I am not talkign about bogging the motor just apply a tiny bit of gas and letting it come up.

I have about an 80mi round trip to work and I drive it as my DD. Between my F150 with a lil 4.2L and my RX300 with a 3.0L that my wife drives neither gets that much better mpg. The RX usualy doesnt even hit 20 and its so tiny it drives me nutz- my right knee constantly bangs the corenr of the center dash section and I'm only about 5'9". I also worry about the deer around here and 'minor' damage on an RX is thousands. And dont have money for another vehicle right now. If I baby mine I can get close to 15 out of it as it is stock (in the summer, ~2mpg less in winter), and worry a whole lot less about deer, and be able to haul anything unexpected.

I understand your concerns and aside from taking it easy on the gas pedal there's not much you can do. At best you might get an extra 1.5mpg by babying the accelerator.

As for myself, I no longer feel the pain as I have obtained a fleet fuel card from my employer. I no longer even pay attention to daily fluctuations in gas prices. My boss says it's for driving to and from work but noone will notice a little extra here and there. Just can't take it on a vacation or pile up any crazy expenses etc.

An H/T tire may get you 1/2 to 1 mpg more....

What are you getting? If under 10, there may be some things to be done.
