I have a 1985 Ford F150 with a 300 CID Straight Six Engine. It's got a (C4 or C6 Transmission... still debating)
But the real problem today is when I bought this truck, by turning the key, the truck didn't start. So, to start it, I had to take a screwdriver and jump the truck by crossing the solenoid.
Today, I went and bought a new solenoid and installed it. However! The first time turning the key with the new solenoid, the truck started to turn over. It kept turning over but it didn't start up. So, even when I turned off the key (and took it out!) the starter (from what I heard) continued to spin. So, I had to unplug the battery to get it from spinning.
The next time I tried it, I turned the key and jumped it with my screwdrive. Same problem, I had to undo the battery.
NOW! Even with the key out, if I even touch the positive terminal to the battery, it starts to try and start up.
I have no idea what the problem is. Reading an earlier thread, they all said it is the solenoid.
I just bought it today... Honestly, why would it be bad already?
So, is the problem the solenoid? Or is it something different?
Your solenoid froze up.Specifically the contacts inside. This has happened to me 3 times now.Aftermarket solenoids are usually made very cheaply,so the contacts weld themselves together pretty easy. The best way to fix it is to get a Motorcraft solenoid from Ford,or if you're lucky, keep getting solenoids until you find one that doesn't weld itself.
That problem definitely gets annoying real quick.Especially with a loud truck like mine.
