78 F150 Starting Issues

Hello all,

I'm at my wit's end here, so I recently swapped out my starter, starter solenoid, and battery. Turned the key over and nothing, so I tried running a hot wire from the battery directly to the ignition point of the solenoid, truck fired up briefly, but died due to the carburetor which I need to tune, no problem though.

Okay, so I find out why turning over the key did nothing, I had forgotten a fusible link, put that on the same lug on the solenoid as the positive battery cable and tried firing up the truck. Starter engaged but truck wouldn't start, and when I let go of the key it kept cranking, jump out and the solenoid is smoking, disconnect the battery.

So I think it's safe to assume the solenoid is shot, so I buy yet another and mount it, check all my grounds, have a brand new ground cable for the battery, brand new cable between the battery and solenoid and brand new cable from solenoid to starter. Sanded the ground point for the battery and solenoid as well to make sure they were clean.

Try turning the key over, solenoid clicks once, then nothing. Have jumper cables running from another truck in case battery wasn't getting enough juice. Battery is running 13v+ with jumps attached.

Cables get warm when I turn over the key but brand new solenoid doesn't click, and starter doesn't move. Tried tapping starter with a hammer in case the arm was stuck but no change. I'm fresh out of ideas.

Any idea what's causing this? Any idea why the solenoid burnt up as soon as I attached the fusible link? Any advice would be awesome. Thanks all.

Seems to me you have a faulty ICM=ignition control module....the 5x5 silver box on your drivers side fender.
