So i'm building a new well pump truck using a 99 chassis w/7.3L Powerstroke and I purchased a Auxiliary Idle Control Module so I can remotely raise the rpm to run the hydraulics. My problem is that when I plug the unit into the factory harness, the display reads actual RPM but when I press the RPM button the lights flash as indicated by the manual but the RPM never raises to the factory preset. Next I connected up a momentary N.O. open switch between the red and gray leads. When I activate the switch the RPM lights flash indicating its sending signal to the computer, but the engine rpm's stay the same. A freind mentioned I might need to take the truck to ford to flash the computer and then reprogram it to except this ford aux module. Anyone have expeiance with this unit
After you activate the RPM button, and select the rpm you desire, you have to press the "FORD" oval button. Your vehicle has to be in P or N with the parking brake activated.
To disengage either press the brake pedal or the "FORD" oval button again. No programing is necessary.
Did you set the parking brake? IIRC, the brake needs to be set for it to work. If you did, make sure the "brake" light on the dash lights up too. If it doesn't, the switch at the parking brake probably needs cleaning.
Ok I just checked and the E-brake is not activating a light on the dash, so I am going to work on ceaning or replacing the switch and see if that will fix the problem.
That should do it. If the lights out, the computer thinks the brake isn't on. You can test it out by simply grounding the wire on the switch to a metal part of the dash. The light should come on and the truck should idle up when told to.
Replaced the E-brake switch and the module activated.... Thanks for all the help!!!!!
Mike
I solved the problem by installing a switch that grounds the signal to the e-brake light on the dash. I flip the switch, the light comes on, the AIC works. The sensor on the e-brake pedal is flimsy at best, you might consider wiring in a switch like I did. It's real simple to do.
I really like my idle controller.
I was going to suggest ground also, and hook up a switch to it (i dislike using my parking brake unless needed) BUT it was already suggested. Im a little slow today.
Glad you didnt give up on it, they are great rigs, I paid 45 shipped for mine on ebay.
