Ok, my 77 dent has some after market crap door jam switches fitted, so I decided to get the correct ones, they duely arrived, in a Motorcraft box no less!! Very impressed as I got them from an aftermarket supplier.
Installed one, closed the door, light off, opened the door, light on...so far so good.
Then I went for a drive, and the dome light flickered on and off, and finally stayed on.....both doors shut....off home, checked switch, all looked well. So I did some measuring, turns out it was 1/8" too long, so I sanded the top off it, back to where the "mushroom" on the end of the plunger just started, and, hey presto, all good. Open the door, light comes on, close it, light goes off, drive truck, light stays off....I'd call that a good result!!
This may be of use to someone perhaps?

I had a problem with my 77 passenger door where it didn't work at all. I took it out and cleaned it up with a wire brush and sprayed electric contact cleaner on it and put it back in and it works like new, and it's still factory original.
Yup, they do have a threaded body, but mine was screwed all the way in, so I couldn't solve it that way.
When they are new, the centre protrudes a long way, and, as you close the door, it pushes that to the correct depth, ensuring the switch operates, no matter the gap between door and body. It is actually a very good design feature.
In my case, the gap was too small by 1/8", and nearly pushed the centre out the back of the switch, by sanding the top off, it gave the desired clearance.
If I had original ones in the first place, cleaning it would have been my preferred choice, but the after market ones in the truck looked wrong, cheap and nasty!! The original ones are definately the go for sure!!

I may be on the other side of the world, and have to import my parts, but I love my dent, and plan to never sell it!!
Driving on the left in NZ sure gets attention, and it's size too!! I gotta post pics......NZ is right hand drive btw.
Now, if only I could solve my cold misfire, I'd be a happy chappie!! I think it is condensation.....have been told the dizzy fitted is crap...it's a Mallory HEI, with integral coil.....my mechanic hates them, and wants me to switch to a different Mallory, with seperate coil.....or MSD I guess....either way, it is the biggest bugbear I have at the moment.....
