I broke off one of the bolts that holds on the caliper. I bought the new kit form Ford (what a life saver Guzzle is). When I went to remove the top pin it is stuck. I used some wd and hit on it a little with a chisel and hammer. I was not able to remove it. Leaving on a trip in the morning. Should it come out easy unless it is corded in? If so do I just need to use a little more elbow grease?
Thanks
dont use a hammer i cracked mine that way the bracket the pin goes in is 50 or $60 at auto zone i would call to see if they have one in stock before useing to much force and dont forget to grease the new pins
I just replaced the caliper bracket this past weekend. It's an easy job and the local parts store here had it for $26 bucks. Takes longer to jack up the truck and take all the lugs off. The new slide pins are about $14 if I recall. Not a bad job at all.
This started cuz I had to replace the hub. and when I was tighten the last blot that held on the caliper it broke. So I went a bought a replacement kit. That is when I found the one pin that wont move.
Plat I wont use to much muscle
The top caliper pins have a rubber sleeve on them that creat a helluva lot of suction when you try to remove them. I had to put my pin in a vise and pry the damn bracket off! Didn't have any good grease around so I cleaned them up, and coated them with antisieze, I'll be damned if the yget stuck again!
I put mine in a vise and it would not turn so i was going to tap it out with a hammer it did not crack eazy so dont think you cant use alot of forse just have a back you plan did mine on friday could not get the new part till monday. and when it broke it was 30 min of hitting it with a hammer, never got it out.
Get yourself a can of PB Blaster and soak it with that. WD won't do a thing for you. I got my pin out by shooting it with PB and twisting on it with a pair of vise grips. It eventually worked its way out.
I just replaced the RF caliper bracket yesterday, the lower pin was siezed pretty bad in it(still is).
Part was ~$30 from O'reilly's . Got new pins/bolts too ~$5
Nah, most auto parts stores carry them now. Get a new set of the rubber boots too if they don't come with the pins. Mine didn't and the boots cost about as much as the pins believe it or not.
I helped another FTE member this last weekend and we broke a bolt off in the pin. We found out that Checker Auto also carries the slide pins and bolts now.
