I have a 2002 f350 super duty with a 5.4L triton engine. While driving, the guages quit working and then the battery died about 1 hour later. I tested the altenator and found a bad regulater. I replaced the altenator and the system is still not charging and the guages still do not work. the altenator has the charge wire to the battery and 3 wires in the plug. 1 wire should go to the battery source, 1 to the ignition switch and I think the third goes to the ecm but am not sure. Can anyone help?? I am also looking for a fuse diagram as it is not printed on the fuse cover but it is suposed to be in the owners mannual, but I do not have one. Where can I buy a owners and service mannual?
Thanks
do you mean it was only reading 12V with the motor running? If only 12V then the alternator is not charging. It should be pushing over 13V at to the batteries, more like 14V
Where did you buy the new Alt.? I went to three bad ones from Autozone once before I finally got a good one. Just a thought. Just because it is new doesn't mean it is good, esp. if it is remanufactured.

Exactly...that is what I was trying to determine. If you take it in they can load test the charging system and see if that alt. is doing anything, but showing just 12V at the battery I think you have determined the same thing.
Good point.
I had it rebuilt at Northeren Mobile Electric in Canton Ohio. I have used them reguarly and they have proven to be true pros. In reading the threads everyone has sent, I rechecked my fuses again and found #45, a 10 amp mini fuse to be blown. It controls the ignintion/run circut. It is working now, as The plug with 3 wires, 1 of them does go to the battery via the ECM, another goes to the ECM to control charging or on/off and the third wire goes to the ignition switch. My fears were that the ECM got a short in it but I lucked out. Thanks to all for your help
