Nice day so windows were down and I noticed a "chirping" from my RF wheel. Only hear it at low speed and pretty much only when I cut the wheel to the left, although I did hear it a time or two when rolling straight. Also is not constant.
Just replaced the hub/bearing assy on that wheel and it kind of sounds like a brake squeeler, but I kind of doubt that.
Now this description would usually indicate a wheel bearing/hub, but then again if so, it should make noise at speed to, especially when turning.
hey jh225, i had this problem one time and it ended up being the dust seal on the axle shaft next to the hub. i just pulled it back a little bit and sprayed some lithium grease on it and it quit.
Checked the pads when I had it all apart and there was plenty of meat left.
There was a time or two when it seemed like the sound went away when brakes were applied. Like I said, it does seem to be tied into the same revolutions as a rotor hitting a high spot.
Guess it is going to come down to pulling the wheel and getting a current view.
im having that exact same problem JH, let me know what you find out! i'm getting the brakes replaced tomorrow and see if that does anything, but I also heard something about needle bearings being a problem too?? not sure

ok, here is what they told me. Keep mind I have manual locking hubs, I don't know if you do or not.
The brakes didn't solve the issue, and what I thought was a bearing issue or something along those lines wasn't correct. It ended up being the locking mechanism for my passenger side hub. Kind of funny how something that small can make that big noise. So all I have to do is order some new locking hub mechanisms and a conversion kit. The mechanisms costing about $170 for the pair, and the conversion kit being $90 if I remember correct. Not to bad, better then replacing the whole assembly. Hope that helped, if you got any questions I'll be checking back here regularly and I'll try to help out.
I had to have the caliper replaced because the slide pins were hanging up. I have had 3 calipers replaced but this is the only one that made that type of noise.
The slide pins suck on these so they maybe barely hanging it up. Not enough to create any amount of heat but enough to cause the chirping.
I have manual hubs (Warn) and is it possible for it to be going on the fritz
I guess the easiest way is to take the lock part out of the hub and take it for a ride.
Thanks for the info, I will post up when I find something out.
yep, that's what I would try...I was gonna order the parts, but they told me it would take about 4 weeks for the conversion kit to come in. Seeing as how I leave for Afghanistan later this month it would just be pointless. So it's on the to do list for when I get back. They did something temporary though to it, I can't remember what they said....but the noise stopped
