I'm on vacation and my altenator went bad. As it was going out, the gauge was redlining high, the battery light came on, and my message center stated "check charging system".
I replaced the altenator and the gauge is right in the middle like it should be but, my battery light is still on and the message center still says to check the charging system.
Do I need to reset something like a trouble code or is something else wrong? If this altenator is bad too, I want to return it here as I don't have a Value Auto at home.
In case anyone else runs into this, I'll share my find.
One of the 3 small wires coming off the altenator was broken. My guess is that it burned in two, instead of blowing a fues, when I red lined. I spliced it back together and the battery light and "check charging system" went off. I ran the onboard dianostic and it said the charging system was OK.
