I had read way back when Ford said they would be building their own diesel that they planned on putting a bunch of trucks out in heavy duty and high mileage scenarios for testing prior to final build design. Has any of this data been published? Is the re-flash for more hp and torque a result of these findings maybe? Were there any other last-minute changes made at or just before production time?
My buddy saw a short bed chassis/engine display at the Houston Livestock show. Being a gooseneck hauler like me, he noticed that the urea tank is mounted in the place that we normally mount the B&W hitch frame. He asked the Ford rep on site about it and was told that nobody ever asked that question. Has that been addressed in the production trucks? B&W says that they don't have a kit yet for the 2011.
I built and priced an F250 Lariat on the website and it came out $800 cheaper than a comparably equipped 2010 I was looking at on my dealer's lot. If Ford throws a little incentive, maybe I'll wait to buy. My 2004 6.0 is still running great at 112000 miles so I can wait a couple months to see what shows up on the lots.
You can order a gooseneck/fifth wheel prep package from Ford now. There are video's of the 2011 Super Duty's being used by companies in the south and west. I believe two of them are Halliburton and Florida Gas and Electric. They claim the 6.7L is the best motor Ford has had in there trucks. You should be able to find the video's on this forum.
Good Luck
The videos are cool but they look like they're designed as mini sales pitches. The kind of data I was looking for was what kinds of flaws or re-design elements were discovered during trials. Like when the Halliburton guy says "Ford told us to run this truck hard!" Okay, fine, but when you ran it hard, did anything break or did a Ford rep come out and say "Oh crap, we gotta fix that before we start building a million of these things." That's the kind of data I was interested in. Basically, which trial discoveries resulted in what changes to the final production models. I'm sure all that info will surface eventually.

It is interesting that we all have different expectations. I think you want Ford to tell you proprietary information. Hell, Toyota has an alleged problem with unintended acceleration, and they still won't share the information they have. Remember people have died from that alleged issue.
Now that's apples and oranges; I would be happy if Ford came across issues and quickly addressed them....so much so that I wouldn't be aware of them.
So we both have different expectations...I see that as a good thing.
