5th wheel hitch conundrum

The Super Duty I purchased came already equipped with a B&W turnover gooseneck ball. In previous instances I've never been a fan of the turnover ball. However, it came with the pickup and I will keep it. I do pull gooseneck trailers and it is something I will not part with.

The issue is mounting the rails for the 5th wheel. This is also a not negotiable. The rails which are B&W have an offset of 32 1/2 inches from the back rail to back edge of the box and the Reese rails are 30 3/16 from the rail to the box.

It looks like the B&W with the 32 1/2 will be in the way of the brackets on the gooseneck ball. I am concerned if I follow the Reese instructions that I'd be behind the axle or not far enough ahead to push the weight forward.

The camper I pull is a short Coachman which appears to be half ton towable. In the past I've pulled 32 foot campers to deliver them for friends.

I am thinking I will email customer support at B&W to see if they have any insight. I want to have this right before sinking holes into the box and frame.

I have a 5th hitch and don't want to mess with an adaptor that converts 5th wheel to gooseneck. I want to be able pull a gooseneck and a 5th wheel.

I have a solution figured out. I need to weld up a bracket. I picked up some bar stock and angle iron.

I figured out the rails for the 5th wheel. I am also able to keep the gooseneck. The only thing I needed was a new set frame rails. I also had to fabricate a bracket to bolt it up to the frame. I ran out of time this morning.

When it is all said and done I can pull a gooseneck, 5th wheel and what ever pumper pull. And still have a toolbox in back.

Can you post pics of what you came up with?

I would have been worse off had the 5th wheel been any more forward. I would still like a couple more inches back.

Why did you have to do that that way? Couldn't you have just drilled 2 1/2" holes thru the L bracket into the frame?

Things like factory holes and shock mounts were in the way.

Ahh, totally missed the shock mount rivets. I've put hundreds of 5th wheel hitches in but clearly didn't see those rivets in your pics.

Nice job.

Thanks. I normally don't post pics of my welding jobs. But good ol' stick welding with an older Lincoln I was proud of my work.

In hind sight another inch would have been better.

It was the same story with my old pickup. The first few turns were nerve racking. I might have to look for a new pin box to move it forward about 6 inches.
