I started running into these transmission issues in the last couple days...
2000 Excursion 7.3L... 140k
Two days ago which cruising on the highway (70 mph w/ UD on) the transmission jarred, almost like it went down a gear and then right back up... one big thud and the truck jarred.
Today the same thing happened about 15 times over a 70 mile trip, it also stalled while slowing as I came to a light, and once while I was parking it. It also jarred while pulling away from a light going into 2nd gear.
Thoughts??? hopefully good ones, as I'm not optimistic....
Remove the driveshaft and lube the slip yoke. Ford sells a special long life grease for this.
Thanks for the recommendation Mark, sounds pretty straight forward, anything I should be paying attention for when I do this? Any special tools that I might need?
I may be wrong, but the stalling kind of sounds like a cam position sensor.
I did receive a recall notice in the mail about the CPS. I have heard of the issues, but from what I read I thought it just died and that was it, I didn't think it would restart. Either way, if I have to go to Ford to get the long life grease that Mark suggested I can get the new CPS at the same time.
I have a V10 in my excursion, but when I had my F-350 with the 7.3L the CPS started to go out, it would hiccup going down the road and then a couple of days later it started stalling, but it would always restart. I have heard of them going bad all together and the engine dieing and not restarting, but I guess I was just lucky with mine in that it never left me stranded.

If this is the problem, then this emotion is in order...
