I have been searching craigslist and pull-a-part places to find the parts i need for a 4x4 conversion. I found a guy that has quite a few parts from broncos and f150's. He has a TTB dana 44 front axle and 9 inch rear axle from an 85 bronco, and has the same set up from an 86 f150. Both sets are geared 3.55:3.56...which one would be the best option? I also found a manual transfer case from a 94 f150. what transmission should i look for, or would any of these parts even work? i could really use some help, so i appreciate whoever can respond!
87-91 you can use the 9" but you'll loose the rear anti-lock. 92+ needs the vss and that's only in the 8.8 rear. The 94 transfer case won't have the speedo output for a 91 and older truck. The trans depends on what you have and want.
okay, since you know what youre talking about..can you give me a list of the best parts and years to pull from? ive been trying to research this for a while and i still dont have a definite list of what to get. I have been trying to find a 4x4 1994 donor truck but its harder than i thought it would be. right now i have a 2wd 1994 f150, 3.08 rear axle with a 6 inch suspension lift. will i be able to keep that lift?
What size tires are you running?
What engine and trans does the truck currently have?
If you got or are going to 35's you need a lot more than 3.55 gears so there is no point changing the rear axle, just get a TTB front axle, t-case and trans combo with driveshafts and have gears installed in both diffs. You can't easily modify a 2wd trans to accept the t-case so you're better off buying with a 4wd transmission.

I have the 5.0 302 engine. Im pulling 35x12.5x18 tires. When i got those on, i lost a ton of power. What gears would you suggest? I would rather not go down to 4.10's because i do quite a bit of highway driving and that would just suck. i have read a lot about the e4od trans but most people said they have issues. what trans should i get? a c-6?

I was afraid you were gonna say that.

No it won't. A 5.0 truck with an overdrive trans needs 3.55 gears just be a sensible driving vehicle that doesn't bog down on every little hill with the stock 29" tires. With 35" tires it needs 4.30 gears just to get the same performance, and no that won't make the motor scream it will only be doing about 2000rpm at 70mph which is just about ideal for power and fuel economy. Of course if you don't put an overdrive trans in the truck then that changes things but you should get an OD trans if at all possible.

What trans does the truck have now?
honestly im not sure. so if i get a front axle thats geared at 3.55 how much would the parts cost to gear it to 4.09 and the back to 4.10?

does any of this make sense to you? and would either of those transmission/transfer case combos work?
when I converted mine to 4x4 I bought a whole truck... way easier and cheaper than buying it piece by piece.. I have an 87 and the parts truck was an 83. Got it for $500 and made it all back once I scrapped it. But mine has a 9 inch rear end and it's nice. Better than the 8.8 that was I it in my opinion. I have a d44 front axle to. Also 3.55 gears and a c6 tranny (soon switching to a 4 speed) and I have an np208 t case. It was all pretty much a bolt in swap and you will need a new transmission. The output shafts on 2wd and 4wds trannys are different
