hello, im converting my 1977 f250 with a built 460, built c6, 3.55 dana 60 rear, lightened truck, over from the stock steering, to a manual rack and pinion. i am putting a control arm setup in the front also.
Does anyone have any idea if this is
A-possible
B-affordable
C-a write up?
is this a bad idea? i can get the rack and pinion for less than 100 bucks..
I believe this swap is most commonly done with 1/2 tons using the more desirable 9 inch rear end, and the crown vic front end.
Should be some tech stuff around.
rock and peanut steering is really light duty unless you use a rack from a later model ram?f150?
even then its iffie with the tre sizes and overall size.
maybe if you downgrade to a windsor with alum heads and a lighter trans you can get away with it.
even with extensive lightning your still a portly 4000lbs a bit much for a mustang rack(i assume your planning on using) and if your alignment and scrub is not spot on its going to be working really hard
failure is not an option when working with steering and suspension
thanks guys, i will search the tech threads to try to find something. if not and i decide to go as planned, i will have to do a tech write-up for it with pictures and such.
