What exactly does this do? I am about to take mine off and see if it's plugged but I never really understood what exactly it's purpose is. Can anyone explain?
EBPV (exhaust back pressure valve) it is a flap in the turbo that the PCM sends a signal to when it is cold. then it closes and makes the truck lag but helps warm the engine up by keeping the heat in. think of it kinda like a jacket for the engine. alot of people unplug it and forget it but some like me wire it onto a switch and use it as an exhaust brake and just turn it on to slow down. i hope this helps. just be sure if you put it on a switch dont try to give the truck much fuel as it builds the pressure in the turbo up through the roof and watch how long it is on if you dont have gauges cause it also raises your EGT's. i have hit almost 1200* with mine turned on
Well, it's intermittant. I just started another thread on that, but sometimes it boggs slightly, black smoke, not as high boost as normal, temp goes up slightly.
I'm overly sensitive to problems with my truck. You know how it is when you drive the exact same route every day and you get used to the way it runs over certain places like hills and all. It's just not acting right all of the time.
When this started I had a 40 foot gooseneck on that I have pulled hundreds of times before and it was really noticeable! I got passed by a loaded down duramax and that just ain't right! It's never happened before either.
Now I'm noticing this problem running empty too. I keep seeing it blowing a little black smoke on acceleration and bogging slightly. Something has got to be wrong. It's basically stock except for the air filter, 3-4 inch dp and 4 inch exhaust so it shouldn't act like this.
