My air conditioner is blowing warm air, heater works just fine, air worked fine last year...
Ford place wants to run air condition diagnostic for $50 before they do anything.
Isn't it possible it just needs freon? If so wouldn't it be less expensive to just add it? I'd almost rather do that and THEN pay diagnostic if it still doesn't work... But will they even do it this way?
Please give me your thoughts--I have an appointment this afternoon already and then had the brilliant idea to ask about it on here
I would try to find a local a/c shop and see what they can do for you. I have a 1991 F700 that uses the older freon (r22). We had pulled the motor and trans to replace exhaust manifolds so we had to disconnect the a/c system purging what gas was left in it (apparently there was a leak somewhere). After all was said and done that local shop charged me $110 to upgrade/retrofit the system to the new freon and fixed the leak. Now it blows cold air like in Alaska. I couldn't imagine what the dealer would have wanted.
I guess my question would be, do you know how air conditioning works and do you have the right tools? Just adding freon to a problem can cause a bigger problem. Obviously if you are just low, you have a leak.
The $50 is not to bad or try an automotive air conditioning business in your area that is reputable.
Thanks for replies so far... and no, I wouldn't even dream of adding freon myself. I was talking about having it added as a first fix... that was what I was asking about that...
What could possibly go wrong?......... Probably just a small leak that developed over winter, or the blend door might not be working, have a qualified person check it out.

I have an '04 X and the same thing happened to me two years ago. I, like an idiot, turned the AC off in the winter wherever the AC light illuminated. That is a no no. Took mine to Midas and all they had to do was add about 2 lbs. of freon. Have not had anymore problems and the AC is still real cold.
as a tech I can tell you we cant do that its a big fine to knowingly release freon in to the air. Freon doesnt just disapte in a sealed system, that means its leaked out somewere if its low.
Small leak, fixed, filled with freon, now an icebox
By the way, when your ac is out and it's 90 degrees, if you've got a sunroof (which I wouldn't have ordered but came with the truck) and a sliding rear window, you can open that back window and crack the sunroof UP and a nice breeze pulls through the truck making it bearable
Thats my 2-80 air conditioning..........open 2 windows and do 80mph. It does blow pretty good and has adjustable flow with the electric rear slider. Also works real good to get the foul air out of the cab from any teenagers that ate too many burritos...ask me how I know!

As a teenager I used to live on Taco Bell; I hadn't eaten there in probably 10 years but decided to hit a drive-through about two weeks ago. I was reminded about 20 minutes later why it had been 10 years...
