I'd bet you can't drive the truck 49% of the time--to work, to the store, to pick up kids from school--just as long as you have another "primary" vehicle. BUT I would be interested in what's in the policy. It could be that the reason different people are getting different stories from the Haggerty (or other classic insurance rep) is that the rules are vague and subject to interpretation. Maybe the restrictions aren't spelled out like I think they might be.

For example, classic auto plates in WA State are great--you get it registered once and that's it, or some really cool benefit like that--but there are some restrictions. The biggie is that you can't drive it except to parades, club meetings, or "for the enjoyment of others". Well that last one could be interpreted as allowing others on the road to see my lovely, well-maintained classic truck! I would (and was) just fine having those plates and driving it to work every day.

But Texas spells out restrictions for classics in a much more specific (and constraining) way. I wouldn't feel comfortable registering it that way here because of how specific the law is. So...wondering if anyone can share the language of the Haggerty or similar policy?

True do not stray from the policy because it will bite and sting hard. If you see the white F-150 in my album, you will see that it was rolled. I had personal insurance on it, but let one of the guys use it to haul debris away and guess what (NOT INTENDED FOR COMMERCIAL USE) thanks police report, So guess who foots the bill

what really sucks in insurance is the biggest rip off. i was in an accident back in 01 and it was really really really bad. my passenger and i were okay, some how...anyways, my insurance at the time said "we've got everything covered...dont worry about it" two days later, they filed bankruptcy. the company went belly up. my health insurance would have covered my hospital bills except for the fact that my car insurance had accepted the claim. so they couldnt do anything for me. i had to pay every last bill out of pocket. i had made 5 payment out of 36 on my car loan. every month on the 18th for the next 3 yrs i remembered what it felt like to be screwed...

I have classic car coverage on mine through Travelers. I stated the physical damage ammount I wanted and I drive it daily no questions asked, though I keep the miles down since its not that far to work. The rate is pretty low but I get a discount for having the wife's truck and the house with them too.

yeah you can get some discounts if you have mulitiple vehicles or a house policy too. i keep the miles down cus i only get 5mpg...lol i've honestly had really good luck with my company. i really dont think its fair to put limits on how you drive your truck. i guess if you only pay 100.00 a year for coverage...sure why not. but to tell you that you cant use it as a truck is crazy... hello...its a truck...before i bought my baby she was an old farm truck pulling and working like a truck. if i wanted to drive my truck like a car, i'd have bought a car. i wont even flinch as loading gravel or lumber in the back.

I use Progressive, very reasonable.

Allstate was starting to butt gouge after being a policy holder for 14 years.

I have State Farm and just liability on my truck. It is my daily driver and I drive it and use it like a truck. Can't be bothered about restrictions on how I can use it and when.

I have State Farm on my vehicles, they accepted my 77 truck as a collector then charged me alot more money. I learned they had really refused and insured it as a regular truck due to not having shiney paint. I looked into Haggerty. I have several older cars and if I switch to Haggerty for the collector cars, it would only cost $24 to add full coverage for the pickup. But I wouldn't be able to haul or tow anything with it. I have another truck so I was ok with it, but looks like I have to find out more info before I make the switch. They said insuring trucks are tricky due to how people tend to use them.

After talking with about ten different companies I decided to go with Safeco. They had a really good rate, agreed value, and no restrictions. Last thing I want is to have to make a claim and then find out in the fine print that I'm not covered.

I live in WV & have Nationwide Insurance an they insured my 74 F250 with 360 & 4 speed manual with liability at $37 a month. An said if I wanted more insurance I would have to have in appraised to get it insured for more. I would check with Nationwide Insurance an see what they say & I am using mine as a daily driver to an from work an everything.

I'd be careful with that unless your truck is a real piece of junk. I used to think that was the way to go untill I got hit in mine and the other guy, who was at fault, only had the minimum required policy limits to the tune of $5000 physical damage. Guess who got shafted. I don't know how your state's laws are but it didn't matter if he hit my '75, my '02, my Kenworth, or a new Ferrari, $5000 is all the owner gets from him and there's no point in sueing some one with that kind of coverage since they don't have anything to begin with.

Illinois minimum requirements are:
* $20,000 - injury or death of one person in an accident
* $40,000 - injury or death of more than one person in an accident
* $15,000 - damage to property of another person

This doesn't mean that people don't drive without insurance so I would be screwed there.
