If you haven't replaced it (with a genuine motorcraft part) I would still lean towards that module. I had one quit on my Corvette and it was erratic as hell. It would work alright when cold, then when it got hot it would start missing and cutting out. Sometimes it wouldn't run at all. I ended up getting one from another car and my problems went away instantly.
I don't trust parts stores for electronic parts like this. They are notoriously poor quality.

I think i will pick one up tonight. I will let you guys know if it helps. Probably wont get to it till tomorrow but i will let ya know.
The way you describe how it "threw you back in your seat" sounds like the timing is too far retarded. Then when you barely got the motor to run a little faster, it vacuum advanced the timing and made it run better. Thats what my trucks problem was. She runs like a dream now!
try running it without the vacuum advance for a test run....when i put my 460 together i couldnt get the truck to run right with it on...i know they are supposed to have them, but sometimes stock dizzys do strange things...try running without it, (plug the line) and you will know if the mechanical advance unit is having problems.....if that has no effect, hook the line back up...then pop the distributer cap, and put a socket on the crank bolt, turn the crank back and forth a bit while watching the rotor bug, if there is play between the crank and rotor bug then your timing chain is toast...there will be a VERY MINIMAL amount of play on a good chain....
Well i was going to do all kinds of things to Christine today but now i have to fix my car. I either snapped an axle or the wheel bearing went out , or both. It never ends!
Well i fixed my car and then went to work on Christine and i replaced the ignition control module. IT WORKED! She runs like a champ now and doesnt die anymore. Thanks for the help everyone!
