I have a quick question,Is there supposed to be a grommet on the top of the door panel in the hole for the lock ****?I know that the 87-96 trucks have em,but my new door panels from an 82 F250 just have a hole and no grommet. Thanks for any help.I can post pics if anybody is confused.
The 80-81's have the slider lock setup, so that's probably where the grommet comes from.
The 87+ trucks, some of them have the little chrome trim piece around the hole in the panel for the ****
1980 and 1981 built before 1/81 have slide locks below the arm rests.
1981 built from 1/81 and 1982-1986 have the pull type locks .
1981 built between 1/81 and 2/81 have black hexigon headed pull ***** for the locks. This **** comes with a grommet. Do not know if it is used as this black **** is used on numerous vehicles including the 1973-1979s F-series, various cars etc...
1981 built from 3/81 and 1982-1986 have a "headless" chrome pull **** without the grommet.
Very timely question. My '81 has the headless chrome pull. I've been trying to find something to put in that hole, but no luck. I thought maybe it was a level of trim thing, but I see no one has a grommet/bushing/sleeve/something. Certainly there must be a dress-up chrome du-dad that would work. I'll continue the hunt.
I was just always wondering cause in the 4th edition of the NPD catalog, they show a grommet,or at least a piece of chrome trim in the lock hole on their door panels.I took a look at some 8th gen door panels last trip to the junkyard, and they had the chrome grommets, but they're held on with a bunch of little tabs, and I don't think the hole in our door panels is large enough to just slip them in without enlarging the hole, which I don't wanna do.
According to the books, yours does not have a grommet.
Or at least... It does not have a replaceable grommet rather with the "round over" chrome *****. If it ever did come with a grommet it was part of the door panel itself.
Yea,I think the hole is way too small for any kind of grommet to fit.I don't wanna cut up my nice door panels,so i'm just gonna leave them grommet-less.Thanks y'all.
i think you should fashion something or repurpose something...cuz how cool will that look with the bright trim on your doors?
I was gonna transplant some grommets from an 87-91 truck, but the hole in our door panels is too small to make it work.It was really hard for me to cut the holes in the panels for the woodgrain.I'm done cutting up the panels forever.
