Sunday driving isn't bad, weekdays are. And the feeders around the Heights are finally mostly open, but it has been a two year headache if you live here. The service road going west between Studewood and Yale is still a mess. Try going anywhere on 290 or the North Loop anytime during the day. Try going into downtown on any freeway in the mornings between 7 and 9. It may not be as bad as LA which has a pitiful freeway system compared to Houston, but it is bad. Why do you think that Exxon, Shell, and most of the smaller oil and gas companies are moving out of downtown as fast as possible. All of them are moving way out in the suburbs because they don't want to spend 4 hours a day driving back and forth to work. And the only time you can "open up" your truck on the freeway for any length of time is in the middle of the night.

BTW, Houston is 627 square miles - LA is 468 square miles. I have heard that argument for a long time, that Houston is a tiny suburb compared to LA.

For you guy's arguing about the size of Houston versus the size of LA, I lived in Houston a long, long time ago. So long ago that Westeimer was a two lane where it hit Highway 6. It was a 4 lane in front of the Galleria, too.

We lived in West University and back then, it was still a nice little bedroom community full of two and three bedroom homes. The house I lived in was on two lots. When I sold it (for just under 4 times what we spent on it in the first place) they bulldozed it, shaved the lot and put two, two story homes on the two lots that sold for a $1/2 a million a piece!

My buddy lives in Fort Bend County. He lives in a neighborhood that we used to goose hunt in back in the day. Goodyear still had a blimp base out on I-45 north before you got to 1960 (I think).

As for which is bigger? I would have to think that Houston is spread out more. One thing I do know with all certainty, Houston has the LARGEST water system in the world! I can't remember what the most recent count was on residential customers, but it far surpasses any other municipal utility system in the US and quite possibly, the world. Including New York City!

might check wikipedia. They have all the city/census information on their webpages for places/cities/counties/towns/etc.
That might settle this argument once and for all.

Here is some more ammo to help argue your point
city of houston: 627.8mi (includes land/water)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houston,_TX

city of los angeles: 503sq mi (includes land/water)\
