6.0 turbo on a 7.3

So I completed a 6.0 swap in my excursion and it turned out great! My next project is a 97 f250 with a solid front axle with a 6 speed out of a 2000 super duty and a 6.0 turbo on the 7.3. It's got potential of 600 hp when it's all said and done, BUT I was wondering if anyone has or had or could find a schematic for the wiring on the turbo? I need to tie it into the PCM, IDM and fly by pedal I believe. Thanks everyone

Are you even sure that it's going to mate up to a 7.3? The 6.0 is a different design turbo(VGT versus Westgate). That would atleast mean more then just wiring it, unless you were able to wiring in some sensors that would fool the pcm into thinking it an acceptable turbo(which I'm not sure I would trust something like that).

How is a 7.3 PCM going to know what to do with a variable geometry turbo? Are you doing the programming yourself? Just curious, as I've never heard of this being done.

Edit: Apparently it took me 10 minutes longer to think of how to ask the same question that Tex asked.

The VGT turbo actuator is a PWM controlled valve controlled by a driver in the ECM. I don't think the factory Ford ECM has any provisions for it. Could be wrong, but the programming would be the next obstacle, if so.

International did use the ECM that they used on the 444E in their HT530 engine. The HT530 (2001 to 2003) used basically the same VGT turbo with a divided T4 flange, but opposite shaft rotation of the V8. So the International Engine ECM's somehow have provisions for control and programming.

I made a stand that the turbo fits on and will also fit on the 7.3 and it will fit under the hood. The truck already has a 6.0 cooler. The swap was done by two guys in diesel power magazine a few years ago and by someone else that I have also only seen pictures and rumors. It's a 90 hp upgrade. No programming. The PCM and ECM can be tapped and basically pick up the variation of the fly by wire pedal. The VGT would then be fluxuated by the pedal which might work. I have been trying to contact those who have done it but no reply yet. We will try it and see

You might could hook the vgt sol. to a potentiometer switch hooked up to the throttle pedal. It would take a lot of fooling with to get everything just right but it might work.

You would have to use something that would handle the current of the solenoid, but I think it's totally possible. I have thought about doing this as well, an it would be a great upgrade. The turbo is great, but it can be unreliable, especially if you have a lot of soot or moisture in the air where the turbine housing rusts and corrodes and/or soots up causing the vanes to stick. The turbo is exercised at idle to keep it moving and prevent soot buildup. That was one of the first things International had to change in the programming in 2002 to keep turbos from sticking as much. Then I think they changed it a little once more.
