My buddys 04 has started to run bad. So bad it wont even move out of its tracks. It has 189,000 on it all stock.
I ran the scanner on it and it showed a code on 2,3,5,8 injectors. So we went ahead and replaced them with new injectors. The truck takes awhile before it starts up then runs rough. start to rev it up and it hesitates a bit then starts to rev up and then it doesn't sound so bad. I notice it blew black smoke out as I reved it up.
I done another buzz test and its still showing codes for the same injectors. only memory code that shows up is something about the IAT.
Iding it almost sounds like its about ready to die.
Heres what I have tested at idling: 650-665 rpms
Ficmmpwr (v) 48.0
FicmLpwr (v) 12.0
Ficmsync Yes
Icp jumps from : 4676-5012 kpa
Icp jumps from : .99-1.35
inj timing -6.0 degrees
inj pres reg %24
Exh back pres 117 kpa
I also notice while the truck was off the icp pressure moved from 750kpa-700kpa. I tryed it without the icp plugged up also.
Thanks for any input
Check the ICP connector for oil. If oily, then it is the ICP
If that is OK, then I suggest you verify the following.
Is the HFCM running when you turn the KO with EO?
Have you changed your fuel filters recently?
Remove the engine fuel filter cap. Make sure the filter is not twisted or crushed. This will prevent or severely restrict fuel flow to the FIs. It should come out with the cap. If it does not, then check the stem the filter seats on to be sure it is not broken. Then, have someone turn on the ignition and watch for fuel flow into the bowl. It should fill fairly quick.
Heres what I have now I checked the fuel filter and it was good then had someone turn the key on the bowl filled up and no bubbles.
Im still getting codes high and low circuit for cylinders 2,3,5,8.
I checked the icp and notice there was a little bit of oil in it but not enough if you turn it up nothing would come out. But with the truck off im still getting 700-750 kpa on the scanner.
I did notice something different when I crank it over it doesn't want to start but when I push the throttle to the floor it trys like it wants to start but cant.
Just say I am impressed by the amount of homework you did prior to coming on and posting.. and the details you posted.
I don't have much to add --- as the issue is not my expertise.
The only thing I can think of is, I erase all the codes after I log them, and see what comes back up... worked to really help me narrow the problems by knowing what conditions the code recur.
Thanks gearloose, I know you guys are here to help and that is much appreciated and I would do the same if I knew something. I try not to waste no ones time. Again thanks to everyone for there help!!!!!!
I put a new icp in this afternoon still no start I can still crank it over and it wont hit a lick but as soon as I push the accelerator down it trys but just wont start.
Will I be able to use my wiring harness which is the 03 version on his 04.5?
I'm with tex.. Mine did exactly what your saying. If I pumped the pedal I finally got it started. It ran 1 more day then I got a new ficm since it would no longer start. I'd check the ficm voltage and verify it starting. It would put out blk smoke and not start.
sorry about that cheezit my scanner shows up in kpa's.
The icp pressure running was jumping up and down from 678-727psi.
Exh back pressure 17 psi
And when the truck was off it stayed at 108-101 psi. which I thought wasnt right but it migh be.
ok that helps some. try unpluging the icp sensor and see if it starts/ issue goes away. this will set a p2285 code so ingor it. also check the icpv should be about .19-.24v give or take a little bit, running at idle should sit a round .80-.90v
as stated check the ficm voltage.
What are the FICM_L, FICM_M and FICM_V voltages indicating when you rev it up, and it starts running rough (particularly FICM_M)? If FICM_M drops to less than 45, I'd chalk it up to yet another 6.0L FICM biting the dust, by what I'm reading through all the posts in this thread.
I really wouldnt know now m-chan it wont even start no more. I know when idling it would sound like someone was holding something over the intake (if that makes any sense)?
It still acts like it wants to almost start when im pushing the accelerator in but thats it
I done a voltage check on the ficm and it dropped down to 42 then jumped around. So I decided to tak it apart and didnt find the solder on the back bad but in the front a tiny part got really hot. Its right between the two little black squares and goes to one of them hope this makes sense.
I have pics but its saying im not allowed to post them?
