I'm looking to buy my first diesel truck. Haven't found the right one yet but going for a '97 powerstroke w 5spd.
Since this is my first diesel and since I'm still somewhat new to them I feel like I should have the engine inspected at a diesel shop. Is this something you usually do? Is an inspection useful for finding stuff I might not pickup on my own since I don't really know what it should be like even if it's perfect?
How much does it usually cost and in your experience do most sellers(private or dealer) usually let you do this?
Ok ill give u a link on some vids the vids are called HOW TO BUY A USED POWERSTROKE DIESEL TRUCK watch all of them an this guy shows all the common thing to look for.
For me personally, I took a couple trucks to Dynomite Diesel to have them inspected. It was worth it to me to spend the hundred bucks to know if the injectors looked good or the glow plug system was working. It was worth it to have the guy who works on Powerstrokes in his sleep to drive this thing and tell me exactly what it needed and exactly what was good about it. Thats my .02 Honestly i dont like that Powerstrokehelp channel youtube guy. so i wouldn't give him a hundred bucks to check out my truck.
idk he seems to know what he is talking about but i would just look at his vids an do your own check first on what u learn from the vids then if u want to get i check out buy a shop near your cuz they do every thing an like james said it is well worth it cuz a truck is a big investment.
