I have spent a lot of time on this site learning. Thanks to all of the contributors. My question is, my truck is bucking and blowing black smoke under acceleration. I does not want to shift while I'm accelerating and I have to let up on the gas to get it to shift. I bought an autoenginuity scan tool and tried to run the buzz test on the injectors. When the engine is cold, I get a couple of injectors clicking. When engine is warm, they all click perfectly. My truck starts fine when cold. No hard starts or rough running. Just will not accelerate past 2000 rpm. The other thing I noticed is when the truck is bucking, It makes a "turbo fart" sound repeatedly until I back off. The manifold pressure when it is doing this is 24.5 lbs and and I can see the egr position in volts jump each time it makes the "turbo fart" noise.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul
Not sure if my truck info. shows - it's a 03' F350
Can you do a vein sweep with AE. Get the latest flash from ford, vxcf9 which has a vein sweep at start up. Sounds like stuck turbo veins. This WILL blow the head gaskets in short order. Can AE do a VVT test? Got codes?

Reason: info
Can someone who knows AutoEngenuity, SCT, and the Ford dealer tools tell us exactly what are the major differences?
I know on the dealer tools, it can do things like turning off one cylinder (or injector) to do a power balance test (at least on gassers), and there are plenty more routines in it.
I had the truck flashed at the beginning of '09 - it was required to get it registered. I believe that is was the heat induction flash. The curious thing was that the truck started running poorly shortly after this. It's a work truck though and is very hard to pull it offline to bring back to dealer. Thought I could take care of problem after hours. I had also pulled the turbo off and cleaned it. The veins were completely frozen. They moved freely after the cleaning procedure.
I don't think AE does the cylinder contribution yet and not sure about power balance test. I've read that they are working on the contribution test and will have it ready in late spring. I do have some codes - P1000 when I reset the KAM memory, P0237 Low boost? and some egr codes the occured when I unplugged the valve to test. Also, the truck has 105,000 miles on it.
do you still have the catylitic convertor on your truck? if so maybe have it deleted for under 100 bucks and see if that helps. i've heard that when they plug up you can have a lot of strange things happen. lack of power and smoke being a couple of them.

If you are going to delete.. keep the old one.
Smog checks on them are coming just about everywhere.
AE will allow you to turn off one cylinder at a time, it's under the actuation menu, not in the on-board diagnostic tab. Make sure you have the latest software from AE's website though as that is apart of the 8.2 software.
SCT as far as diagnostics goes, it has some limited datalogging capabilities and code reading capabilities.
AE allows you to pull from all 9 modules of the 6.0. Allows for actuation of some componants, injectors for one. It also allows you to recalibrate the speedo up to 40" tires, dealerships I think can only do 37". Stuff like that. It is probably the best diagnostic tool you can get under a budget.
The other one that is fairly good is the DashDAQ-PC(not exactly like what Matt uses for his phalanx tuner), it allows you to even flash the computer(providing you have the programs to flash), but it is significantly more and it doesn't support as many vehicles as the AE software does.
If you are a true hands on person I personally would recommend the AE, but the DashDAQ-PC does look good as well and has a little more to offer, I just don't have personal experience with it. SCT is really really really bare bones. It just depends on how much you want to work on your own truck.
Thanks for the responses. I have cleaned my egr valve. It was pretty dirty but did not change how it drove after I replaced it. I also welded an old one shut to see if excessive ep was pushing past the valve. Still no change. One thing I'm wonering is if the valves don't click when they are cold, does that mean the not workin properly? I bypassed the catalytic by seperating the downpipe from the rest of the exhaust - the turbo is sooo loud with it disconnected!
I will also check to see if I have the latest version of AE.
Thanks again for the help.
