? 7.3 ?

I've been lurking a while and find most everything I need to know thru searching but why did Ford quit using the 7.3 our school buses here still use them unless I'm mistaken?

Thank the wonderful EPA for that. The 7.3 could never meet the new emissions standards.

I know that is the story International and Ford tell but I have to wonder if it is really true. The 7.3 had a long production history- 1988 to 2003(?). There are over 1,000,000 Ford trucks with 7.3 on the road plus all the International 444s in medium duty trucks. Why do I think that some marketing cabal decided that a new engine was needed to keep up consumer interest and give the automotive press something new to write about? Why do I think the engineers at International and Ford could have patched up the 7.3 to meet emission and economy standards if that is what they truly wanted to accomplish?

Why don't you just do an internet search and you'll discover the new emission requirements that went into effect for 2003. You will also find new regulations in 2007 when Ford / International changed engines again, as well as the new 2010 emissions regulations which explains Ford's new 7.7 motor.
