Here what i got going on. Im looking at buying a truck this yr and see what on you guys like the most. I know the 6.7 isnt out yet but they way they are pushing it really hard. So i think it will be a good motor but i want to see what you all think.
If you need a truck right now then go ahead and get the 6.4. It is a good motor with lots of power...if you can wait a few months to a year then delay for the 6.7 to get some kind of reputation.
All indications are that it will be a good motor, big plus is 85 more ft. lbs of TQ than the 6.4.

Reason: edit the TQ amount...fuzzy math ya know
Buy a Dodge and wait for Ford to have a proven product.

Dodge isn't having that good of luck lately and if you haven't noticed since Fiat bought them out they seem to have dropped the dodge name and just call it the ram. Guess they are real proud of the Dodge name and rep?

Actually I have noticed. I went through the new truck pretty carefully and it makes the build-quality of my truck look like total crap. I don't see that calling it "Dodge" or a "Ram" has anything to do with the product quality. Some will say is it great- some will say that it sucks. But in either case, it is the only proven drivetrain on the market right now. And you know the CTD is good for 300k easy, while Ford tests their new motor to simulate 250k?!
I do not like the idea of owning my 6.0 after the warranty expires.
If you do not rely on your truck for work, who cares, buy whatever you like and let the dealer do warranty work. But if you need reliability, the Ford is an unknown risk. And the "testing" videos look a lot more like marketing fluff than genuine testing.
Testing a truck by making it idle for a long time or pulling 10k doesn't really impress me. Hiring celebrities to talk tough doesn't convey much substance.
So if you need a truck- buy something proven. Hopefully, in 2014 we can look at the Ford drivetrain as a proven & dependable drivetrain. But until then, it is a gamble with your time.

I have no problem with a Ford product and this new 6.7 coming. I wouldn't hesitate to get one in a heartbeat. Ford will stand behind it and it will be a excellant motor.
Ford leads the market now in sales for a reason and this is a powerful tool to keep all this going.
Wait and get the 6.7. It will be the best yet. I wish I had known I would have waited 2 years for sure.
Well, I have 136500 miles on my 6.4. I tow trailers everywhere I go and the motor has been a champ. No problems other than the radiators and they don't fail, just drip so you can get a new one when you have time.
Thing is, at an average of around 9 mpg over those miles (remember, all towing except for maybe 4000 miles) I have purchased 15167 gallons of diesel fuel.
At an average of $2.80/gallon (which is probably low) that's $42467!
I am probably going to get a 6.7 soon. If I get 12 mpg I could save around $10,000 over the course of 3 years (more if fuel goes up again). Who knows though, we will have to see what the 6.7 gets MPG wise.
Yea I agree that we'll have to see what the 6.7 gets first. I can't imagine that it gets 28 to 35 mpg like a magazine claims.
Like most of us I'll be waiting and watching for real world figures.
I went through this choice in November to replace my LEMON 2008 6.4, I bought a 2009 6.4 for a couple of reasons they had it on the lot, good price and I know the dpf can go away via spartan etc. not sure on the 6.7,and does not use cow ****.
by the way I really like my 09 been great so far.
Don't forget the 6.7 requires Urea. This will add some extra cost everytime you service your truck or fill the Urea tank as needed. I just purchased a 2010 6.4. I traded a 08 and and received over $10,000 rebates and incentives. I personally didn't want to deal with the Urea. Just a personal choice. The warranty is also the same on a 2010 as a 2011.

Why did you need to get into a new one so soon? was it just a case of having payments end a couple of years later after trade in etc?
Just curious how this works. Even after all these years I am not sure.
