electrical plug behind bumper

'99 Ranger Sport, 4x2, 3 liter, XLT
While replacing the front bumper this weekend I noticed a male plug you could put into an extension cord. It is wired to the bumper on the back side. Is this to warm the engine? No mention appears on the window sticker which I still have. There is also another wired fitting of some sort there. Anyone know what they are?

The plug you mention could be for a block heater or coolant heater. Block heaters fit into the engine block where a freeze plug goes. Some coolant heaters fit into the radiator hoses to heat the antifreeze in the hose and radiator. You could follow the wire and see where it goes just to be sure what it is. The other wired fitting you mention might be the sensor for the air bags. It may have markings on it identifying it as a Ford part.
