Just curious...my back up aid stopped working 2 years ago. It beeps for a split second when put in reverse then "check back up aid" would appear in the message center. Dealer said it was the module when I brought it in for servicing but it was not covered under my extended warranty (apparently I did not get the top of the line warranty, I got the one below it) so it would have been almost $400 to replace. Anyhow, how many of these have gone bad on these trucks?
Is this something that can be replaced without going through the dealer and if so, is it easy? I'm looking to sell my vehicle and all of the features I purchased it for (back up aid, overhead dvd player) stopped working. It's frustrating!!! I am just waiting for the moonroof to stop working LOL My automatic fold down 3rd row seats stopped working last year but they replaced that under warranty thank goodness!!
Did they test it or just guess? We had a sensor go out in my wifes 03 exporer and that was how it acted. I bought the part at the dealer and replaced it myself. You could always order the parts from an online dealer and save some money or pick up used at the boneyard. I am not familiar with where the module is on that vehicle.
Now you got me thinking so I dug through my files to find the invoice for the visit and they said it was the r/r inner sensor at fault CODE C1710. So is that one of the sensors? Is that an easy fix?
Yes that is one of the sensors. That is not a bad fix, on the Explorer I had to pull the bumper cover to change it. If I remember correctly it took a couple of hours and the part was about $100 at the dealer.
My experience has been with the Explorer of that year and that is what I have the manual for. I am sure there are some differences. On that vehicle it involved removing the tail lights and with the hatch open finding all of the screws. Where the cover joins the body it was riveted and these had to be drilled out and the re riveted. Unless someone else chimes in that has the info you need I would get a manual (the ones from helm are the best imo) either used or new. Another option would to subscribe to an on online manual for a short time period (helm or alldata). Good luck, maybe on yours you will not have to pull the cover.
I recently bought a 2003 Ford Expedition (Eddie Bauer w/navigation) and it has two sensors in the back bumper. I thought they were for the back up aid, but it does not work and it does not show up in the message center. I checked under the bumper to see if they were blanks, but they are wired up. I have not found any more info online. Please help. Thanks
Just called a local dealer in Vegas. Its 90 bucks for them to "diagnose" the Rear Parking assist system. Im bascally looking for them to pull the code so i know what part is faulty. Its either the center sensor...one of the two outboards...or the ECM module itself.
i guess 90 bucks isnt bad considering if i make a wrong guess in one of the 4 it could get expensive quickly.
Is there a code reader available to rent or use to find this? or is it FORD property only.
The only reader I am aware of is the NGS that dealer uses. Anyone can buy one but they are pricey. Most individuals that have them got theirs the same way I got mine, off of Ebay. With all of the dealers closing or newer generation tools coming out they end up on Ebay or places like that. So ask around.
No, it doesn't say anything in the message center when I put it in reverse. I find it strange cause it isn't in the list of options to enable in the message center. I need to trace the wires and check the fuses. Thanks
It's default is "always on", to see it as an option in the message center you need to be in reverse. From there you can turn it off, but it is only temporary. It will go back to being on after the next cycle of the key.
