my wifes 2003 expedition with rear a/c has lost its charge. im giong to recharge it to get her by but will want to find the leak. im sure it has some common places leaks occur, anyone know where they are?
The leak can be anywhere, there is no common place. Look for signs of an oily residue or an accumulation of grime and that will most likely be your leak.
i do comercial refrigeration work for a living so im not to worried about finding it. just thought id start here.
Do a dye check on the system. There have been many problems with the o-rings at the connections. Some of the AC guys just put a little dino oil on them when replacing them and they will swell due to a chemical reaction.
i checked the charge to see if it had anything left in it, about 50 psi static on a 55 degree day, and i did find dye on the caps. so when i get time to look it shouldnt be too bad.
you should never do anything to possibly contaminate a refigerant system, that would fall into that category. the air works good in the deisel so she will have to drive it til i get it fixed.
