engine swap help

Ok, I got a good deal on my truck but it has a tired 360. My truck is a 1974 auto 4x4 by the way. What I have read from the forums is I can turm my 360 into a 390 by changing the crank and rods. What if I wanted to just drop a 390 in its place? Would any 390 work without major fabrication? Would the motor mounts be in the same place? Would there be any issues with the trans fitting up? Any issues I should know about? Can you give me a link if this has been covered a million times?(I have not been able to find it).

Since the 360 and 390 are basically identical it should be a direct replacement.

Thanks. Anyone else agree. I want to make sure before I spend my money on a 390.

The only difference between the 2 engines is the internals. Everything else is the same. The only way to tell the 2 apart is by measuring the stroke. If i were you i would swap out the guts. be cheaper that way and you would "know" what you have...
