Whats up guys!? I'm fairly new on here and have looked through most of the threads and found some very very helpfull info... I'm thinking I would much rather take some ya'lls advice then some mechanic wanting to make a buck. I've learned so much just by reading some of ya'lls post. The acutator in the door to make the door locks work again to the post about fixing the digital readout in the roof... man i tell you this is some A+ stuff!!
So I've got a kinda dumb problem.... I have a 2000 F-250 w/ the 7.3 and 6 speed manual with a hypertech programmer that I've had about a year. I stopped in today and bought a new Wix fuel filter to change out my old one and low and behold the old will not come out. The plastic nut type thing on top is stripped and it kinda feels like the last guy somehow cross-thread the old one in and it will not come out. I've tried everything from vice-grips to channel locks to taking most of the stuff of the top and trying a pipe wrench to no avial. For some reason it seems like its siezed up in there or like I said cross-thread in there. Do any of you guys have any suggestion on how I might get this old one out with out messing things up too much? Thanks in advance for any help that can be given.
Welcome to FTE. Do you have an oil filter wrench that fits the oil filter on your truck? If so, it will also fit the lid to the fuel filter. Pop the drain valve on the back of the fuel bowl filter open for a few seconds to make sure you relieve any pressure in there and use the oil filter wrench to loosen it up. Remember righty tighty, lefty loosey.
I assume you got the wix filter that comes with a new lid attached so you don't have to worry about damaging the old lid?
Also remember to check for the old O rings inside the housing as they can come off the filter when you remove it, and coat the new filter's O rings with Diesel fuel before installing.

Welcome to FTE.
Had any luck getting that cover off yet?
You might want to purchase something like THIS FILTER COVER TOOL FROM MATCO. Worth it's weight in gold.

they are nice but what i dont like about that one is it grips only 2 plastic fins on the cap and could brake them plastic fins very easy.. especially a tight one like the OP.. Dave lott has one that grips the cap as whole as you twist on it..
Ron the one that I have is the third one down on THIS PAGE
It works for both the 7.3 and the 6.0.
But after finding a picture of a Wix filter like the OP mentions, none of the above will work.
Stupid design if you ask me.
What I would suggest is to go purchase a Ford fuel filter lid and factory style filter. THE LID FOR SALE ON EBAY
Once those are in hand, then drill a couple of large holes in the top of the old lid and use a couple of large screwdrivers in an "X" pattern to remove the old Wix filter, throw it in the trash and never buy Wix fuel filters again.
They might make good filters but that is just dumb.
I would still try the oil filter wrench first before drilling holes in the lid. I don't know how thick the lid is, so I don't know if you could get enough pressure to open it up or if it would just break into pieces.

Guzzle is now selling the lids on his site. Next time I'm going to change my setup. I have the same wix on mime.
Yes I finally got it off. It was just like the one in the picture above. I do agree is a pretty dumb design. I guess who ever had the truck for me some how got it cross thread on there. I tried the oil filter wrench last night along with a pipe wrench after any pressure was released to no avail. This morning I drilled two holes in the top and stuck 2 long bolts in there and worked it off. Thanks for all the help guys.
