okay, so am trying to change our fuel filter, got the lid off no problem, does the OEM filter thread into the bowl? cannot seem to get it to come out or even turn if that is the case, have been searching here for about 2 hours now, to no avail

No -- it just presses down on the tube. If you can turn it back & forth, pull up at the same time -- it should come out. Also check carefully for old O-rings. If it's that stuck on there, give the bowl a thorough inspection after you get it off.
thank you, finally got it off, and did find the old oring which I knew to check for after all my reading on here new filter is in, and truck seems much happier now
with the wix ones, I learned the hard way today that it is much easier to actually use a socket on the top, as it is designed instead of using pliers. I know it may be a pain to go buy a socket, but I tried using the pliers and wrench, and it started rounding off the top. Got a socket and used that, and it turned with just a little effort. Its not the best design, but its not as horrible as it seems. If used with teh socket it works pretty well

Believe it or not the whole bottom of the filter can separate and stay in the housing. Further disbelief was achieved when I went to pull out the bottom sheet metal and found two of em. So there is room to screw up and leave more than just an o ring in there and it still goes back together. Not sure if it was sealing and filtering at that point, but keep it in mind.
