48-52 Radiator Support Change?

Has anyone tried turning the radiator support around front to back? Does this throw off the mounting for the fenders? I was looking this as a possible means for making a radiator mount easier. It looks like it's straight up either way but not sure.

Radiator slant

Not sure, but i think the radiator slantss. front to back when mounted correctly. What would you reverse it for ? Do you have space constraints?

I need to mount the radiator on the front side of the radiator support and if I turn the support around, the radiator support flange will be closer to the mounting flange on the radiator and easier to bolt in. If I mount it on the back side the fan interferes with the lower hose and I don't have room to run a clutch fan. I can't see a slant but there well may be one. If I can't turn it around I'll have to fabricate another mounting flange on the front side. I can do that but don't need to if I can just reverse the support. I was hoping someone had already been down this road...

There are two positions you can mount the core support. One for V-8 and one that's a little farther forward for the longer 6 cylinder engine. If you haven't already done that move and you need more room, you might look at that option. The holes are already there in the side aprons and frame for the bolts, so you can readily see where it will go. Since it's designed to have alternate mounting points, it doesn't affect the fender braces; they just move with the support. If you're using the stock rad, the deflector in the hood will need to be changed to the 6 cylinder unit. It's a little smaller to fit farther forward in the hood.

On a side note, this is a perfect example of why it's important to give full information, not just of what you want to do, but why, also. It helps us to give better answers, quicker. It's a lesson for everyone. ;-)

Thanks to all. I decided to forgo the clutch fan and go with a regular fan. That way I can run the radiator support in the normal position. I already have the support in the six cylinder holes...

Especially for the people who didn't read the posts Vern explained all this on two weeks ago.

btw, the rad doesn't slant, but the mounting brackets do. Probably be more bother to turn it around, plus the brackets line up approx in the center of the support - wouldn't gain anything.
