Yes and no.. Just one additional wire running across the engine bay and ANOTHER relay under the hood to add to the clutter. I really don't feel like adding any more relays.. I only used 2 for the head light fix, just tee'd the driver's side off. It still gets 13v.

That was the nice thing about my old truck. My dad had it new and installed a back of relays on one of the inner fenders for all of his ham radio equipment. He equip migrated to his new truck and i was left with the relays.

I use one relay , wired so it comes on with the ignition on , then have a toggle switch to turn the fan off . Also have a kill switch wired to the coil so i can shut off the ignition & still run the fan .....Lew

I am going to use a temp sensor, then wire in a by pass toggle switch still havent desided if i am going to use batt power or KO power. I would like to be able to cool the truck down at the race track as much as possible.

Yeah thats what i use mine for , its nice to be able to shut the fan off when you make a run at the track or on the street when you don't need it & be able to run the fan with the motor off to cool down , i use the kill switch in case i have to shut the motor down i just hit the switch ....Lew

Why the heck would you let anyone else drive your truck!?

I'm afraid someone will and then I'll have to and send them to meet .

Im also looking into doing this with my 89 F250 4.9l. Keep us up to date on your MPG gain/loss. Also what were you averaging before you installed the e-fan ?

Nice work.

Looks like a Taurus fan. If so, do you know if it came out of a 3.8 or 3.0?

Bayer, That's pretty weird your fans are coming on without your coolant temp's being up to desired temp you chose. I'm willing to bet your switch is faulty. Like I said I have the same switch and no relay and have no issues with mine turning on if not hot enough.

I'm in the process of rewiring my fan setup. I have a new two speed 16'' fan. I'm wiring the low speed up to a t stat that will switch on at whatever temp I chose. Then I'll have a switch inside that will be able to switch from auto low, off, and full time high.

I was averaging 12/23 at best. I think I'll clock my city mileage this week. I typically fill my tank three to four times a week.

^That's right, I remember you saying that now.

I'm real interested to see how your MPG figures turn out. I looked into doing an E-fan swap last summer, but ran out of time. Maybe this summer....

Keep us posted.

^ I was watching Xtreme 4X4 this morning and Eean said that they did an E-Fan swap on a Cummins Dodge and only picked up about .15 MPG which equates to an extra 3 extra miles per tank. Prolly not gonna be a big change, but the power gain was worth it. That thing really didn't need a fan running all the damn time.

Got a high idle when the truck gets good and WARM now.. Not hot.. Have the fan set to come on at the "A" on NORMAL. I got a temp probe thing, I'll have to shoot it tomorrow to see what the temp is. I figured that the EEC sees the temp getting high and raises the idle thinking that the belt fan will cool it off.
