Yes, all hail the 1911 .45!..... I am a huge fan of DA 9mm pistols, having a Beretta and a Sig-Sauer 9mm, But nobody can not have a 1911 in their collection!
Mine is a 1943 vintage made by Remington typewriters, very well made, but will only shoot hardball GI 230gr ammo, will not load/eject anything else reliably. I am not going to have any gunsmithing done on it to make it fire modern ammo as it lessens its value.
My dad has a $1,100 Kimber custom 1911 .45.....It still gets "temperamental" about feeding/ejecting some types of ammo, but is very accurate at 25yds.
Its one of those things I like about my 9mms, they NEVER hang up.
Its one of my tests with a semi-auto pistol, if it has a tendency to be temperamental, I trade it off.
I own a few revolvers and some things just HAVE to be in a revolver such as my 38 special and 357 mag but of them all nothing puts a smile on my face like my good old trusty Glock 9mm
The Sterling .380 I have has never jammed on me, it's all stainless with some nice wood grips my dad made for it. Has a thumb safety and lock open with empty mag.
Several years back I had a chance to buy a nice Kimber 1911 for $800, but decided to buy a '75 F150 instead. Probably a better investment for me at the time.
I can't decide what kind of 9mm to buy though. I love Glocks but don't like the lack of a thumb safety, don't like the ruger auto guns, not a huge fan of the Springfield XD. I've had good experiences with the Taurus models I've shot... Just not sure what I want yet. My father-in-law has a nice Sig chambered in .357sig which is nice but expensive.

Can't beat revolvers for reliability, but I don't like the extra noise and bulk. My dad's S&W .357 is fun to shoot but just too big and loud. Used to have a lot of fun with our little .22 magnum revolver though.
C'mon Evan.........You know that M9 (Beretta 92) never gives any trouble!
Sigs and Glocks are real nice too, S&W Military and Police are great too. I have heard to stay away from the Springfield armory XD line, as they are made in Croatia and if it breaks, you will be without a pistol for a long time.
several years ago i traded my ex-father in law a 44 mag for his 357 short barrel. with the holster. that worked better. it looked like an over grown 38.
I love Glocks but don't like the lack of a thumb safety,
Personally I am a big fan on the Glock safe action trigger and not having to mess with a thumb safety. I know for a lot of guys though that's a real deal breaker, no safety no buy so here is a nice simple fix. Get the Glock and add a nice little SIDERLOCK | The Additional Safety for Glock pistols.
I am not a fan of the Glock trigger either.........but I can use one just fine!
Revolvers are fun in .38spl/.357 mag, you can shoot .38s all day and not get tired.
A box of .44mag thru my Taurus, and I am ready to go home.
