03 6.0 issues

I have a buddy with an 03 6.0 with 100K on the clock. They have had it for a while and its had the EGR replaced once and atleast one turbo cleanin. Here lately since the weather has turned nice the truck has started running rough. After it starts up and sits for a second it runs rough idles way down and up a bit them immediately goes to a high idle. Also when she presses the pedal down like a woman(no offence) it won't go any where or it just barely moves. Its not throwing any codes either

Not very familiar with the 6.0s I was just wondering what it could be. Also the truck has had an Edge evo on it since 50K

Have a look at the EGR valve JD....it might be all coked up:

Do you know what was used to check for codes?

He said his edge, I am going to get AE hooked up hopefully saturday. I haven't heard the truck run so I don't know. Would the EGR be fine after it warmed up?

The AE is definitely a better bet at reading codes than the edge, but I'm sure you know that.

If the valve is really gunked up it's not going to make much difference if the truck is warmed up or not.

If it runs good once it warms up there are three things that come to mind first egr valve (that one probably won't matter if it is warmed up or not), injector sticktion, and ficm problems. Look in the tech folder of this section for a good write up on checking/cleaning the egr valve, and checking/repeairing the ficm. And of course the ae will show alot more about the problem than the edge will. One thing to remember about the ae when checking the ficm voltage it won't read write if the voltage is to low. So if it shows anything other than 48 volts I would check it manualy with a multimeter.

How many miles a year is this thing currently doing?

If it is low mileage recently, rust in the turbo, sticking parts from lack of exercise, is high up on the list of possible faults.

I had the same problem because mine sat for a year with hardly any use before I got it...

Created all sorts of codes.. problems.. until I tamed it.

I agree with Sandman, try unplugging the ICP sensor during concern to see if it goes away. Most likely given that it is a 2003, the sensor may be oil-fouled. Its on the pump cover at the back of engine under turbo, can be accessed over transmission from underneath.

Well the truck is just drove by the with I am sure it isn't drove hard and like he said she just gets in now mashes the pedal and it won't move. Does anyone have a picture of the ICP sensor on these trucks? Just unplugg it and see how it does? It gets drove every other day but a decent amount of short trips

Well got over there late and didn't have AE will be back next week I DO have a video though.

It stumbled when it started a few times kinda like a light romp. Then it kept going on that sound cycle kinda like an EBPV on a 7.3L and it had NO power at all. SO I am guessing the good ol 03 turbo is sticking up bad at 100k?
