So I just bought a 2000 F350 SD w/ 7.3L Diesel & Automatic transmission from a buddy of mine - was a deal too good to pass up (or was it). I've noticed that when cold, there is a several second delay when I put it in gear. Once in gear, once the transmission engages that is, it seems to operate fine. I feel no slippage in any gear and it seems to shift fine through all ranges. Anyone experience this or have any ideas? The dealer checked it out and acknowledged the condition but couldn't diagnose unless we tore it apart and did a rebuild. I'm not convinced it's time for a rebuild yet. Transmission has been routinely serviced and has only seen light towing (ski boat). Tranny fluid looks clear and no burnt smell.
With my expierance with all fords they have a slight delay in engaging. So im guessing there is nothing wrong? But Im not 100% if thats the kind of slight delay you are having. Good luck
I noticed mine do that sometimes in the cold too. I can't be sure it wasn't caused by the addition of a Power Hungry chip, but now that it's warmed up here, I assume I fixed it!

The delay is only when shifting from park or from drive to reverse too? My 03 V10 has a sloppy shift from park to drive or drive to reverse. It does not matter if it is cold or not.
My 09 torqueshift tranny is supper tight. Zero lag from. So tight it catches my some time and I feel the U-joints getting mad at me.
