Yes. the lower body grove is the one that goes around the wheel well in the 80-86 but it stops at the wheel well on the 87-97. The back of the bed(above taillights) is slightly rounder on a 87-97 bed than the 80-86 bed as well.
The top body grove(the one just below the door handle) is the same from 80-97. Thats why you can use a door from any year between 80-97

This is the only spot that makes the 87-96 tail lights stand out, when used in an 80-86 bed. Otherwise, they are a bolt-in swap.
One of my tail lights recently got broke, and the newer lights were the only thing I could get locally, new. Everything I found in a salvage yard was in worse shape than the 30 year old orginals.
You have to be real close to the lights to see the difference.
