The problem that I have seen with rear mounted gas tanks is the filler tube being too level, making it difficult to fill.
Ever see the guy at the gas station that has to drive up on a block of wood just to fill'er up?
I think it's more common with a tank thats mounted between the frame rails.
As far as the door it self, just see what you can find. I'd look for a more square door myself. I've even seen them up under the fender.
