99' expedition overdrive will not work

Od switch in shifter does not respond. Replaced switch and no blown fuse. When truck starts up the indicator light in shifter flickers real quick, so i think it is getting power.
any ideas, thanks in advance.

I haven't had to diagnose any tranny problems yet, but my first action would be to pull the computer codes. If any are set, they will indicate the correct place to start looking.

99' expedition overdrive will not work

I had the same problem it is a broken wire in the shift lever. The fix is to replace the broken wire or buy a new shift lever from ford (about $50) The wire replacements takes about 20 minutes and costs around $1.00 but does require some soldering skills.

The way to test the cable is to:

1.) pull the column plastic off
2.) remove the cap and OD button (TCS - transmission control switch)
3.) disonnect the wires coming out of the lever where they attach to the harness

4.) Use a mutilmeter with a continuity tester to check that each of the three wire beep from the loose harness connector and the place where the buttons go in.

If you dont get beeps on all wires then the wire is bad.

Let me know if you need more details or help. If you do this on the weekend I'll give you my number and walk you through it if you like. Or I may just write a tech article on it. depends on how ambitious I feel

99' expedition overdrive will not work

I had something similar happen, but it was not an easy fix. In fact, I had to have my entire tranny replaced. My issues stated with the tranny not going into the overdrive gear, but the light was not on, or blinking. Within 50-60 miles, the light started blinking and the tranny would not shift into 3rd gear now. Took it in to the Ford dealer and they tried to flush the tranny. Still had issues. They then installed a remanned tranny. Took like 30 days to get my truck back

Have you noticed any changes in the performance of your truck?

Mine is a 2001 Exy, XLT 5.4.

Have not experienced any gear hunting or shifting problems yet.
Switch has been like this for about a year and i am going to tow my 77 bronco back from tennesse in a week.
