dont think they had one at the tank stock. There is a kind of screen in the tank on the pickup tube. Sometimes people put an inline at the fuel tank switch valve. You can put an inline filter anywhere you want.
On my 75 it is right where the fuel line enters the carb. Kind of a tiny thing. I believe it screws into the carb then the fuel line is connected to it.
If that pickup screen is clogged with tank debris, will I be able to tell with a fuel pressure gauge at the fuel pump?
My problem is that my truck will start with one pump of the gas pedal and then die only a few seconds later. On the second try, the truck will start and stay running. I thought I might be pulling against a plugged filter. The carb filter is brand new and so are my fuel lines.
If the tank screen was plugged I think it would show up worse at higher rpm. As for a pressure tester , I have seen them for fuel injected but not sure you can test mechanical pump with it. Could be that when setting the fuel bleeds back through the fuel pump down the line, and when you start it it fires the first time on whats inline above the pump then dies. Second start the pump has to pickup fuel again.
