I want to order a couple of small items from McMaster Carr. I am hesitating because they don't show their shipping costs up front. It's a reputable outfit, and I assume that they're reasonable, but I'm nothing if not paranoid.
I'd at least like to know that I can cancel the order if the shipping is too much.
I've never had an issue, I have ordered small stuff like a single 30mm brass bushing to fix a transmission and paid I think $4.30 or so for the bushing, and about $6 for S&H, but never seemed to be an absurd amount.
Other vendors I order from give shipping and say it's an estimate. MC is different. Had a guy tell me that worked for them that they have depot's all over and a UPS trailer sit's there constantly. Soon as it's full, it leaves and is replaced. With their high volume, everything I've ordered came the next day, and charges have alway's been reasonable.
I ordered a garage heater from them back in December. I believe I ordered Sunday night and it was at my shop by the time I pulled in Monday afternoon. Just regular shipping charges and I don't understand how they did it in less than 24 hours but they did.
I've placed over 300 McMaster Carr orders! They rock. Just be careful ordering steel bar. Sometimes it's sheared plate... Everything else is great. Good source for all types of materials, tools, safety equip, belts, pullies, valves, bolts, etc...
