Looking at getting some gages and thought I would like some opinions on what might be good. I am leaning towards a DashDaq, but the price to set up EGT and fuel PSI has me thinking otherwise.
You'll be much happier with any digital reader. You'll be able to read codes, and much more data than with normal GAUGES.
That's what I am thinking. Originally I was thinking about analog gages for looks and function, but the DashDaq, and even the Insight look like nice little gadgets.
For economics and ease, I am leaning towards the insight myself, sounds as good as the dash daq and a lot cheaper. Will still need a fuel pressure gauge if you want to monitor that item.
Fordman - Looking at monitoring options also. Glad to see you posted with a poll, was thinking about a similar post myself. I too have been most seriously considering the dashdaq. Just out of curiosity, have you gotten any quotes or ideas how much $$ it costs to monitor fuel PSI and EGT with dashdaq?? The one holdup for myself is the high initial cost knowing that doesn't include those 2 items. I wonder if its cheaper to get an insight and just get a couple gauges to monitor fuel PSI and EGT?
Flamebuster - do you have any idea how much it might be with the insight and a couple gauges? maybe only one gauge for fuel PSI, if i'm not mistaken I think the insight can monitor EGT if you buy the sensor.
Billbot- Yes the insight can monitor EGT you just have to buy the probe which is normally 79.00 sometimes you can find them cheaper on Ebay. The insight is running at about 250-300 depends on if you can find a deal.
I voted for DashDAQ. I have two DashDAQs(one for the 150 and 1 for the 350) and a bunch of analog gauges in the 350 as well. You really can't beat the neat(atleast neat to me) look of analog gauges, but the DashDAQ is alot more function package compared to analog gauges.
DashDAQ beats the price of just analog gauges if you go with something like Autometer for everything. If you buy the license to go with the DashDAQ you'll get alot more sensors then you'll know what to do with.
If you don't have a GPS unit of some type in the truck, you'll also be able to get that expansion as well.
This doesn't even go into how much more detailed the information you can have while datalogging with this thing, however, that's only important if you like to do alot of the stuff yourself.
I think the Insight fits most people needs, but the DashDAQ is more for the hands on enthusiast. Kinda like a regular CAN code reader would be sufficient for a lot of people on here, but those that really like to do more go with AutoEnginuity(or equilivant).
i have analog gauges and and edge insight, with the 6.0L u can never go wrong with too many gauges i have 20 all together 16 with the insight and 4 analog two pyro's pre and post turbo a boost gauge and trans temp, im thinking of replacing the post turbo pyro with a fuel pressure gauge though

BillBot- I think it will be about another 450 to add EGT and Fuel PSI to the DashDaq. These are some preliminary numbers with these part as I am just starting to look.EGT Probe (Type K) - P/N: RTD-TE-104SH AuxBox (LMA-3) - P/N: 3742 0-100, 0-250, or 0-500 PSI Sensor all are form innovate motorsports

The edge Insight generally lists for 299. and the egt. probe for 75. including E-bay.
The cheapest place I have found is Cobbs Diesel Performance which list the Insight at 269. and the probe for 70.
The Insight comes with a mounting bracket, but I prefer the looks of the dash pod for the insight. Which can be found for 40.00 on E-trailer.com.
Most fuel pressure gauges will run in the 50.00 range. I like the Glow Shift 7 color gauges. and the GS W 711, 100 psi. fuel pressure gauge is 56.00.
Just do a search on Google for automotive gauges to find all the different brands and styles, along with gauge pods. for the A-post, above the mirror, on the dash, below the dash, there is even on with a gauge on ea. side of the existing instrument cluster.. Lots of choices. That is why I have debated this issue for my own preference. To purchase the basics in seperate gauges and mount them you are looking at at least 7 gaugues, for a total around 700.00 depending on your choices plus all the wiring. Tex 25025 has a buetiful setup in his truck. The insight justs seems to be a simpler and cheaper way and still have some style.
