Has anybody got any opinions regarding the Pennzoil platinum 5-30 fully synthetic oil. Seems to meet or exceed all of the specs Ford shows for the 6.0 and is a full synthetic not blend.
I wouldn't run pennzoil or quakerstate if you paid me to. After the parafin wax debacle years ago I still haven't regained trust in either brand name. The wax would build up in the oil channels and starve the engine for oil.
A more scientific way of saying "Don't run it" lol
If you want to know... API specs are voluntary... there is no independent verification of specs except by what the oil companies / brand reports themselves.
Just for clairity, my question about the oil was for future use and the effect it might have on our 6.0 engines. I am not due for an oil change for a few thousand miles yet so looking at everything out there. Engine oils are an probably one of the most important factors in maintenance of our engines so questions about oil would seem fair game. I had not seen that particular synthetic oil and was interested if anyone else had any experience with it. Your comment was unnecessary and makes one think there are some here who feel they are the only ones who should ask questions. I have found this forum excepetionaly helpful in making maintenance decisions for my truck and have even been lucky enough to pass a couple of helpful ideas on the others with unusual problems. I hope that this forum remains open to all discussion that might effect these engines and not limited as you would seem to indicate.
I would look twords a 5w40 synthetic. I normally run the Rotella synthetic which can be found at WalMart for 19.00 a gallon. They were out of it on my last oil change so I put in the motor crft stuff, it was a few bucks more but seems ok.
Walmart is where I found the Pennzoil I asked about also. Next oil change will be with the Rotella synthetic as it really seems to be the best bet for these engines. I did notice that they were carrying the ford motorcraft 10-40 blended especially for the power stroke engines. Only about 11.50/ 5 qt bottle. I am going to be running that in my 4 stroke Suzuki outboards as it meets and or exceeds all of the specs required for them. Any opinions comparing the Rotella and Mobile one synthetics?? Pricing seems pretty close and specs right up there.

I use Mobil 1 Synthetic and like it a lot. The Walmart here doesn't carry all of the oils that were listed in smokersteve's post, but I'm sure that's a local matter more then a widespread WalMart one.

I read all the comments several times(just to make sure I wasn't missing the one that you were referencing) and I didn't get that impression at all.
He might not have seen rather or not you were specifically talking about the 6.0 with your oil question or not, but I would imagine that if he truly didn't think you had a right to ask questions on there, he might not have suggested you taking that to an oil/lube forum.
I don't know how you would have reacted had you posted this in the General SuperDuty forum and they directed you to either the Oil/Lube forum or the 6.0 forum for a better picture on the product even though it for sure would have been fair game to ask that question in the General SuperDuty forum as well.
Typically when people ask about things like for instance tuners, they are directed to the specific forum for such an item as those people that are in those forums live and breath those products. You might actually get deeper insight in the oil/lube forum from people that might use that oil in other applications that have noticed bonuses or negatives with running such an oil. While this is engine specific forum it is still more general with regard to tuners, oils, suspension etc. For those products, you'll actually see more people set in their ways with certain things and less likely to be aware of the products that are out there and their specs as well.
