My 75 250 4x4 has been running rich sense the day I bought it (about 2 months ago) and today was the first chance I had to really get in there and get dirty. I removed the carb and went to the parts store and purchased a rebuild kit. Everything was way out of adjustment. Upon re-assembly and setting everything on the carb to what the kit said I fired up the truck and adjusted the idle it ran much better however it was still running rich so I adjusted the flow screws until I had them all the way screwed in and I could not tighten them anymore and my truck is still running rich.
I have checked the float and put a new needle and seat in with the kit. I am baffled.
With the mixture screws all the way in it really shouldn't run at all unless the throttle is too far open for them to function properly or there is a vacuum leak Might check your power valve if you have one, make sure the gasket is on properly and that its a good one. Unhook and plug all vacuum connections when setting everything, that way if something does not work right you will know that it is the carb and not a bad hose somewhere else. Did you soak the carb in cleaner and blow everything out with compressed air? Anything less often is inadequate for the job..
I did soak everything but the rubber parts in carb cleaner. Then blew it all out and I did re connect the vacuum hoses, and put them all back to the port where they belong. The thing that is really confusing me is I have the adjustment screws in all the way and it should be killing the motor for lack of fuel however it will idle fine for about 1 min then start loading up.
