I put new Napa ultra premium rotors on the front of my 03 250 recently and used new ford pads. When you start to release the brake they make a loud groaning sound. You guys can prolly tell me what this is about. It's happened to me on other vehicles but I've never addressed it before.
And while I'm at it,did I make a good choice on the pads. I heard the ford pads were very good.
No I didn't. What is a HW kit?
I didn't know about this site when I had it done. I probably would have bought the power slot rotors and the hawk pads. Should I get the slide pin upgrade, while I'm at it?
Welcome Wayne, never heard any bad things here with the NAPA premiums but any chance did you grease your slide pins, your brakes might be hanging up, caliper not releasing. Edit: Boy that computer is fast Joe
Let us know how you make out, followups are just as important as diagnoising and fixes, helps with future trouble shooting.. Also, like mentioned above, you can buy the up-graded slide pins but just pulling them out and cleaning and regreasing the stock ones works just as good, your call.
Mine already had the upgraded slide pins, so before you buy, you might want to check to see if you have them already. I can't remember off the top of my head how to tell the difference, but maybe it's on Guzzle's site. I always get a hardware kit when I do brakes -- this one comes with new clips & springs for the pads, and boots for the slide pins. Not a lot of parts, but it made it easy.
I got new springs and clips with the ford pads, but I don't remember any boots with them. Just throwing this out, would It be to my advantage to get a set of Hawk pads and put them on?

I use the Powerslot rotors with the Napa pads towing my travel trailer frequently, no problems. I'm a big Napa fan for most things.
I wouldn't. You have brand new pads. I'd just pull them off and grease the slide pins making sure they are the upgraded ones in the process. There are little boots on them that get stretched/torn over time, so I think it's a good idea to replace them. The kit is less than $20, IIRC. Got mine from Autozone.
Just checked out Guzzle's page -- if you need the upgraded slide pins, they come with new boots, so I'd check that first. Here's a link to Guzzle's slide pin upgrade write-up: Welcome to guzzle's Front Caliper Slide Pin Upgrade Web
I checked the part # in Guzzle's article against the ford # and they match. I'll order a set each for the front tomorrow. I wanted to be sure they are the upgraded version. I'll let you know when I get it done.
I'm trying to decide if I want to do some other things at the same time. ie, needle bearings and upper and lower ball joints.
I ordered a set of ford slide pins today. I also bought some ceramic extreme brake parts lubricant. My parts man at advance assured me that this was a superior lubricant for what I am doing. Anybody ever use this stuff of have any thoughts on it.
