Have a new F250 crew cab with the v10. just took it on a 2500 mile trip from cody to SoCal & back. Running a 5Star 87 octane tune. Truck ran fine until reached Mesquite. "Check engine light came on" & truck started missing intermittentlyy at low rpm (1200-1500) smoothed out above that. Had just refueled about 40 mile before the problem occurred and thought might have got some bad gas or maybe altitude Over the next few days the problem came and went with the check engine lightstaying on. the onboard system was no help and the oil water tranny guages and mpg never changed from normal. Didn't have time to get it checked on the road and since the truck was basically running okay except for the occasional miss finished out the trip. Now home and have time to look into any suggestions?
fianlly checked the codes. got the following:
PO300 Random Misfire
P0355 Ignition Coil E Primary -secondary circuit.
Cleared both codes with the tuner, restored the factory tune & ran the truck. After a couple start/stop trips the Check Engine light came back on. Checked for codes & the first code did not show up but the second code is back. Truck seems to be running okay with occasional brief preiods of missing as before but overall running good. today I took the truck in to my regular mechanic (not a dealer) for an oil change & had him check it. He looked up the code and sez there is a service bulletin on it and the trucks PCM needs to be reflashed. Took it over to the local dealer to schedule it for serviceing. guy behind the counter sez, A new V10? didn't know they were still making those... jeez. Anyway taking it in Monday for the new program & will see what happens...

Cylinder # 5 coil is setting circuit faults. Could be the coil itself or the wiring to the coil. #5 is the farthest one back on the passenger side (of course it is ;-).
I'm very curious as to whether there will be warranty issues on the coil because of the 5star tune..... I've noticed alot of dealers finding any excuse they can to not warranty issues with or without proof these days. I hope all goes well.

If I was the OP I would flash the ECU back to the stock calibration and see if the issue remained. If so, then off to the dealer for warranty. NEVER take your truck to the dealer with an aftermarket tune installed. If they were to reflash then you may not be able to install the tune again.
re-mapping the ecm always leaves traces is what I was getting at. The dealers are getting smarter with the bigger trucks and some are starting to investigate a little more rather than just taking the fault-code at face value and throwing a part at it.... But yes for sure Rob, good advice for those new to progrmmers... ALWAYS put the ECM back to factory tune before taking into the dealer, even if its just an oil change. Some techs on a slow day will look for things they know they can get away with and voila! You come to pick up and the ECM has updated and your screwed.
