New guy with missing V10 KS

My 99 F350 with 76K miles started missing a few days ago and the check engine light has never came on. I've changed the plugs and fuel filter but that did not help. I've read here on the site where it might be possible to still find out what cylinder was missing if hooked up to a reader. My question is do I have to take to a dealer (I don't like local dealer) or can a reader from an auto parts store work? This just makes me sick truck has always ran great and pulled like a champ.

Hi and welcome aboard hwtsdf350.
For some info go into the forum for your engine from this link: Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums - Ford truck and SUV owners and enthusiasts Community And Information Source.
Our local parts store will assist with this, you may have one in your area too.
Be sure to join your local KS chapter soon: Kansas Chapter - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums and to fill in the location field in your profile.

I don't want to get too technical in here, but you need to go to a dealer or a very good mechanic with a good scan tool.

Go to the V10 forum, and post there, we'll be glad to help

Good point Art, my bad, the newer trucks aren`t as easy to diagnose as the older ones........
